Taking a high school art elective to be a successful artist
Taking an art class isn’t as easy as people make it seem. You are actually learning ways to make your drawing more neat and professional. The question is are students really learning how to draw in a high school art class?
Some kids aren’t doing it to be an artist. They are doing it because they got the elective just to get a good grade. Or even thinking it's art so it would be easy to pass by drawing some lines on paper.
Most famous artists are self-taught. They didn’t take a class for art or even have the opportunity to take an art class. Even if someone feels they didn’t learn how to draw they still are getting taught how to do basic things that artists use when drawing.
We have 3 art teachers that are great at what they do at Eastside high school. Mrs. Rivas, Ms. Janssen, and Mrs. Wallace. These ladies come to their job to teach kids how to draw or paint. In most student's opinions, they are doing an awesome job.
Mrs.Rivas feels students will benefit from the art class. She said, “Students will be able to recognize these things in movies, clothing, objects, social events, etc.” Following with, “Art is everywhere.”
Some students can really be successful in life with what they learned in a basic high school art class. Mrs. Rivas began to learn art in high school. She says, “I started to learn how to draw in high school but it wasn’t until college that I really understood it and how to draw properly.” It has to be something you are ready to take to the next level.
